Do I Need Summer Health Coverage?
Click here to purchase the Summer Student Life Fee.
If I am registered at the University this summer, I will be billed the summer Student Life Fee and have access to the Student Health Service and Student Counseling Service. (Nothing more is needed on my part.)
If I am returning next academic year (no matter what my insurance status is), OR if I am a U-SHIP enrollee who is graduating this June or August – and I am not registered for summer:
- Summer coverage at the Student Health and Student Counseling Services is not automatic.
- If I want access to Student Health Service and Student Counseling Service during the summer, I must specifically elect this coverage here: https://studentinsurance.uchicago.edu/studentlifefee/authenticate.php before the end of the summer registration period.
- The summer 2015 Student Life Fee is $286 for graduate students and $389 for college students.
- The summer 2015 Dependent Life Fee is $286 per dependent enrolled in U-SHIP. Non U-SHIP dependents are not eligible to pay the summer Dependent Life Fee.
By selecting the summer Student Life Fee enrollment, my student account will be updated to reflect the summer Student Life Fee, and I will have access to the Student Health and Student Counseling Services during the summer. If I am in Chicago for the summer but have not paid the summer Student Life Fee, I will not have access to the Nurse Advice Line or the Student Health or Student Counseling staff-on-call. However, I still will have access to the resources listed at http://help.uchicago.edu.
