Student Accident and Sickness Insurance (SASI)

Eligibility for Coverage

Students

The Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan is available to all registered students, except for:

With the exception of Seminary students, students may elect the Basic or Advantage Plan. Seminary students are not eligible for the Advantage Plan.

Dependents

The Basic Plan is also available for an additional cost to a student's spouse or registered same-sex domestic partner, and to any unmarried children 19 or younger. Children under the age of 23 are eligible if they are unmarried full-time students. However, unlike the student, dependents are not covered by the Basic Plan by default after the enrollment period. The student must request coverage for dependents. Spouses, same-sex domestic partners, and children are not eligible for the Advantage plan.

Students on a Non-Medical Leave of Absence

Students participating in SASI who take an approved leave of absence may continue coverage under the SASI Continuation plan for up to twelve months. Application is required through the Chickering Insurance Coordinator. The SASI continuation plan premium is higher.

Students on Medical Leave of Absence

Students participating in SASI who take an approved non-medical leave of absence for medical reasons may continue coverage in SASI at the registered student rate until the end of the plan year (August 31). At the end of the plan year, they may apply for the SASI Continuation plan for up to 12 months at a higher premium.

Students on medical leave who are enrolled in the SASI student plan are also eligible to utilize the Student Care Center (SCC) and Student Counseling and Resource Service (SCRS), pending payment of the quarterly student health and wellness fee. Students on medical leave of absence who are not enrolled in SASI at the time the leave is processed do not have access to the Student Care Center or Student Counseling and Resource Service.
